"How Quickly Time Fly's Buy In The Northern Forest!"

It is hard to beleave that last years puppies are a year old already.
How quickly they have grown into some beautiful, full spirited and exceptional Sled Dogs.
The future with them looks very good indeed!
This week here the scenery, was as usual, very beautiful with sunny mornings right through to incredible sun sets.
It is sure great to live here away from all the ciaos, craziness and stress of the "civilised world"!
Life here is very simple!
It is great to wake up to the sound of the early morning birds singing and the dogs morning greeting song.
To go to sleep at night with the final good night greeting from the dogs and then the silence of the evening.
Life's circle!
There is still an opening for a Handler/Trainee for this season.
Wish you all the same peace.
Until next week......

"A Great Week Here In The Northern Forest!"

This week was nothing out of the ordinary.
But, that is what makes living here great!
Last weekend, friends came up and we had great BBQ, leisurely times boating on the lake enjoying the scenery, great conversations and  some liquid libations.
The above three photos shows, even on wet/cloudy days, the tranquillity of the forest still prevails.
I also included a couple of photos showing why I am truly blessed living here with my best friends and the love they have to share.
This week the heat/humidity has returned.
But, it will be short last and with the passing storms, the comfortable temperatures will return.
The rain is good for the forest and the prevention of forest fires as this is the peak of vacation season up here.
The mosquitoes are still very plentiful and even this is a good thing keeping many vacationers away.
Only the hardy and real naturalists of the forest survive.
The dogs are returning to life here without Cobalt.
However, for several nights, they called out to her in song looking for her unique voice.
Life in the forest goes on.
Until next week.......

"Sorrow Here In The Northern Forest!"

First, I must apologise that this weeks Blog is not upbeat!
But, I am lamenting the loss of a wonderful companion, friend and team mate.
COBALT
Cobalt died this week due to poisoning from a toad.
It all happened very quickly, in less than an hour, after an encounter with a toad in her area.
It was her curious/playful nature to try and get the toad close to her that brought her into contact with it.
My greatest weakness is that I become too emotionally attached to my canine family. It is for that reason, that I find their passing so difficult.
Cobalt was very unique in her way of communicating with me.
It wasn't a bark, nor a howl but a rather an unusual way of her talking, more like a squawk.
She was always watching the patio/glass door in the chalet and would always talk to me when I would pass it.
She would be the first to greet me in the morning and the last in the evening at bed time.
She was a genital soul who loved to run, especially at Lead.
We spent many hours together with me sitting on top of her house petting her.
It was always a game that I would try to stroke her feet and she would retract them under her body so I couldn't tickle them.
Cobalt, I miss you my sweet, little girl.
Until we meet again........

"A Wet, Mosquito Filled Week Here In The Northern Forest!"

It was a very wet week here with some all day rains and thunder/lightning storms. The water levels here are high for this time of year and the swamp is full of water.
With the rain and the wet swamp, the mosquito population is bursting with these blood thirsty critters!
There seems to be a lot more of them this year as compared too past years.
The mosquitoes here are quite small and can find their way into the chalet through the smallest cracks and hang around the doors allowing them entrance whenever the doors are opened.
Sunday, I had to go for a meat pickup for the dogs to top up the freezers. It was the normal Summer pickup of 20/50 lb blogs of ground beef. This takes place every five weeks with 4.5 hour round trip.
With the mosquitoes swarming around me, it was a quick as possible transfer from the truck to the freezers.
However, there were some stunning sunsets and calm, sunny periods.
There is always beautiful moments here in the forest.
The dogs are very quiet through these rainy periods and are not bothered by the mosquitoes. This is probably due to the garlic powder that is placed into their daily diet.
As a through back to last Winter, here is a photo of Lance & Levi at around 9 months of age.
The pups will be a year old in a few weeks.
The time sure seems to fly by!
Until next week........

"Calm, Sunny Mornings, Beautiful Sunsets And Sled Dogs In the Northern Forest!"

As the title reads, what more could you ask for!
It was a great week with some rain (much needed in the forest), sunny/warm days, cool nights and beautiful sunsets.
All the above and great interactions with my canine family.
Life here can be very simple!
There is young wild rabbit here that is causing some excitement for the dogs. It has decided that it likes to eat less than 20 feet from the kennel were all can see. It plays games with the dogs, as I witnessed this week, where it runs towards the dogs. Stops looks at them, then runs back to its original place to graze. Then runs back and repeats the exercise.
This is a deliberate game to excite the dogs.
When it is tired of the game, it takes off in a flash around the chalet and heads back to its home by the lake.
Nature is funny!
Too some my life here would be boring. But, to me it is a paradise away from all the stress of humanity.
I still have an opening here for a Handler/Trainee for the Fall.
So, if anyone would like to join me and my dogs for the excitement, please contact me ASAP!
Until next week......
