"Two Weeks In One In The Northern Forest!"

This weeks Blog will cover two weeks as I was away last weekend and since my return there has been internet problems.
Last week, Jeanne Debanne Joined our kennel for a temporary position here to help out until our Winter Handler/Trainee arrives here.
Last week, we were able to complete many of our Fall tasks before training commences.
On Friday, I left here to go to Montreal to attend my best friends 50th birthday party. It was a great weekend visiting and enjoying great company and excellent food. I returned to the kennel on Sunday and while away purchased a Go-pro Camera to video the training and racing this Winter. For a entry level camera (base Hero Model) it produces excellent video while enduring tough conditions connected to my ATV.
Fall conditioning/Training started on Monday and the conditions were sufficient to run on Tuesday, Thursday as well as Friday. We ran two teams, one of 12 dogs and one of 11 dogs. All the dogs performed great, especially for their first runs of the season. Kira(2), our new lead dog did a fantastic job and will be a very important member of the team now and for many years to come.
If all works out as planned, we will have a minimum of three leaders under the age of two with a couple of other promising prospects to be developed.
The puppies got have their first free runs this week down by the lake.
There are new video's posted on the Puppy and Training Pages.
Until next week......

"Changes Are Taking Place In The Northern Forest!"

Yes, Autumn is quickly approaching here at Miortuk.
The leaves on the Birch Trees are starting to change colour, the evenings are getting cooler, the first flock of geese heading south was seen last Monday, the squirrels are scurrying around to build their winter nests and the Humming Birds have already started their migration south.
Also this morning a mother bear and her two cubs were seen on our side of the lake not to far from Miortuk. I have heard the dogs a little agitated the last couple of nights and now I know the reason.
This last week was a very rainy one with heavy tropical like down pores. The rains were so heavy and with such volume, the kennel had to be trenched to drain it.
The dogs are sensing the change are getting more excited knowing the running season is about to begin. Indigo is getting her shape back and will be ready to start training with her team mates.
The puppies are getting more active playing and are growing,
There are two new videos on the Puppy Page.
There is also a new/revised French version of my book thanks to Cecile Hue.
Until next week.......

"Puppies Growing And Snow Approaching In The Northern Forest!"

Yes, Time waits for no one!
With the Fireweed going to seed, it is a sign that the first snow is six weeks away! The photo shows it has definitely gone to seed and it has been doing so for the last two weeks.
But, we have also had some beautiful, tranquil mornings and pleasant warm days.
It has been an interesting week working with the puppies and getting everything in place for the start of a new running season.
As you can see from the photos, the puppies are maturing quickly and are now weaned from Indigo. Indigo felt it was about time and was happy her feeding duties were over as their teeth are like needles.Indigo is back in the kennel,  getting her shape back and getting ready to run.
The puppies are very active and devouring their food in a frenzy. This is a fun time, as they end up with plenty of food on themselves and then spend the next few minutes cleaning the remainder off each other.
There is a new video of them on the Puppy Page.
On Monday, Kira was introduced to the kennel and with her rounds out the balance of this years racing team.
Kira is a two year old Speed Leader that we need to proceed to the next step in a very competitive Sprint Circuit here in Quebec. She is from the kennel of  Valerie & Laurent Gonsolin and is from France. Her father is the same father as Indy, one of the top breeders and race leaders of the Gonsolin Kennel.
I am very appreciative of Valerie & Laurent's trust in me to have such a great dog. There is more about her on the Profiles Page.
Last week the vet was here to vaccinate the dogs and complimented the kennel on how great the dogs looked.
I was very proud of that!
Until next week......
