"The End Of October In The Northern Forest!"

10/31/2015

It is hard to beleave it is already the end of October and all that has happened.
It has been a great month here training the dogs for this season. We are having the best start in years with the number of training days, accumulative miles and great dogs to work with. I am very happy with the progress of the teams. they are a real pleasure to run.
It has also been a busy month here with visitors and far to many trips to Montreal.
I find it more difficult to leave the comfort of the forest for even short trips into civilization with all its madness.
Due to truck problems and other obligations and complications, we were only able to get in two days of training this week. Thanks to the assistance of Cecile here visiting for a couple of weeks, we got the two days training this week and scheduled to get in four days next week. That is if the weather co-operates due to warmer weather in the  forecast.
Early morning training runs will be in order.
Luckily, daylight savings time ends tomorrow so it will be light an hour earlier.
Enjoy the video!
Until next week.......

"Another Great Week Of Training In The Northern Forest!"

they oWe had another great week here training getting in four days of running two teams per day.
The A Team is really a nicely synchronized unit; enthusiastic, fast and a very smooth running team. The only changes made in the running order is to give more experience at lead with the alternating of Tira (Kira2), Indigo and Perle.
The B Team is also showing progress with Hurit and Darth gaining more experience on each run. Here also, we are working with young leaders with Kira, Tepeu and Yoda getting more experience at the lead position. The biggest change since last season is Kira who is developing into a very focussed leader immune to distractions such as Partridge, Squirrels, trucks and tractors. She passes all these distractions without even breaking her stride or looking at them. For being the smallest dog in the kennel, she has a dominant attitude at lead. There is a good chance she with get some experience running lead in the Open Team at some races this season.
The puppies are doing great and getting bigger with every passing week. Their food consumption is also increasing and are very enthusiastic eaters. It doesn't take very long for the food to disappear as they in-hail it.
The weather here has been very co-operative this season and it is enabling us to get more miles of running on the teams than we have had the last several years to date.
Until next week.......

"The First Snow Arrived In The Northern Forest!"

This week we witnessed a few wet flurries and the Saturday the first snow. An hour later is was finished and melted.
It was another good week here training getting in three days of ideal conditions considering the warm start to the week.
Both teams are doing great and the "A" Team exceptional.
There is a new video on the Racing/Training Page.
We are still running 4.5 miles/run.
We had the puppies out this week for their first experience wearing a collar and being staked out on the truck. All were fine with it with the exception of Louis who was not impressed. He will be better the next time as all the puppies got a treat after.
Until next week......

"Great Week Training In The Northern Forest!"

It was another great week of training/conditioning getting to run two teams per day and four days of running.
The dogs are looking good with the "A" Team looking great and giving a performance run every time out. The above photos are of the "A" Team running this morning.
The "B" Team is showing constant improvement with each run. The dogs that had less training last year, Sam & Darth, are excelling this year. Hurit, who had issues last year with her confidence, is also improving with every run. She is now enjoying herself on the runs. A video excerpt from today's run is on the Training Page.
This week, we also did more Leader training with Tira, Indigo, Perle all having time up running with Roxy on the "A" Team. On the "B" Team, Tepeu, Kira and Yoda had stints up running with Cobalt. We ran both Tepeu and Yoda together at lead and they were really impressive.
We increased the food this week, as the dogs are really burning the calories.
We will now give the dogs three days rest as we will be having some warmer temperatures.
The puppies turned three months old today and are looking fantastic. Tomorrow they will get their second booster vaccinations.
Until next week......

"50 Seconds Of Cuteness In The Northern Forest!"

Another great week here for running dogs and playing with the puppies.
The weather here was cool enough with early morning temperatures in the minus degrees centigrade. That coupled with sunny days made for a wonderful week.
We were able to get in three days of training, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
The dogs are running 4.5 miles and doing great. The "A" Team had Tira running Lead two days and Indigo running Lead on Saturday. This team is already looking like a well synchronized unit.
The 'B" Team, which has some dogs with less experience, is being adjusted to get dogs running in their best position to give them a more synchronized look.
Saturday's run looked very good after some more adjustments.
We got the puppies out to play again this week down by the lake free running. As you can see from the above video, they are very energetic.
There is a new video on the Training Page showing an excerpt from the run on Thursday of the "A" Team.
Until next week.......
