" THE STILL HUSH AND TRANQUILLITY, WITH THE EARLY MORNING MIST HANGING OVER THE NORTHERN FOREST!"

This photo was taken this morning at 6 am and is indicative of the tranquillity of life here in the forest.
It was a good week here weather wise with seasonable temperatures and dry conditions. But, with the cool nights and rather warm days, we are getting nice moist conditions in the early morning. We are lucky here to have moist conditions as compared to other parts of North America experiencing very dry conditions and early season forest fires.
The dogs are all doing well and enjoying the idyllic Spring life along with playful interaction with their neighbours.
BUSH HUMOUR!
This week is a favorite time of the year for Canadians when we celebrate Earth Week and make the final payment on our 2009 Income Tax ( temporary measure instituted to help pay for the expenses occurred during the First World War).
It is with great pleasure that we top up the unpaid portion of the 50% tax( of our yearly incomes) privilege and realize how our money is spent helping to cover the uncontrolled spending of our elected officials, their extremely generous salaries, exorbitant expenses and bloated pensions. With out them, we would have to worry how we manage our money!
This is also the time we look at how we can protect our Earth from pollution and Global Warming. Since, we all know our politicians produce a lot of "Hot Air", maybe for the good of the planet, we should have fewer politicians.
This would be a WIN WIN for both the environment and our financial welfare.
HA! HA! Just bush humour!

"AN ACTIVE WEEK HERE IN THE NORTHERN FOREST!"

Yes, it was a busy week here with a lot of Spring activities.
Clean up in the kennel and around the chalet.
The photo is of the lake on Wednesday morning and by the afternoon the ice was all gone. This was the earliest Spring breakup I have witnessed since I have lived here. I even heard the frogs starting their annual mating season almost a month early.
The warm weather continued until Thursday night when it started to snow. Friday morning displayed 3' of wet snow blanketing the ground. I had to clear the snow off the two satellite dishes to get reception on both Friday & Saturday mornings. It was a wet three days with snow & rain.
The dogs just stayed in their houses on the weekend to avoid the inclement weather.
However, next week the forecast is for warmer/sunny days.
Last week, I placed an add in Sled Dog Central for a Handler/Trainee for next season and have received a lot of interest already. I have also received a few applications so far. It looks like I will fill the position next week.

" SPRING BREAKUP IN THE NORTHERN FOREST CONTINUES!"

The warm rainy weather experienced last week is leading to an early Spring Breakup of the ice on the lake. The snow is almost completely gone and the ice in the kennel is rapidly disappearing.
Due the inclement weather, it has been a quiet week here with the exception of Wednesday when I went to obtain the monthly supply of meat for the dogs ( 20 x 40lb blocks of turkey & 10 x 40lb blocks of chicken fat). The dogs are currently eating 35lbs of meat mixture + 30cups of dry food per day. This mixture is soaked in 16 litres of water before serving.
The dogs are all doing well and just relaxing after a busy winter of running.
This coming week, the weather forecast is for mostly sunny, Spring days and cool nights.
