It was also a good week of training getting in 3 x 8 mile runs and a quick 4.5 mile sortie to finish of the week with a good attitude run.
The week ended with rain all day Saturday and causing the disappearance of all the snow.
Until next week......

"FOGGY MORNINGS CONTINUE HERE IN THE NORTHERN FOREST!" With temperature differences between the air & the lake water, fog is common in the early mornings. This was a another good week for training the dogs with ideal temperatures and dry weather. This was the first week this season that we were able to get in 5 training days. The interval training schedule now is 3 minute runs followed by 2 minutes rest. The dogs now have close to 100 miles of conditioning on them and are now ready to increase the distance to 8 mile runs. There are 2 new videos on You Tube of the dogs running this week. If you would like to view them , go to the "links" section and click on the You Tube link. Until next week........ " IT WAS A GREAT WEEK HERE AT MIORTUK!" Yes, this was a great week here in the Northern Forest. The training runs were great showing the improvement in conditioning, the continued development in the new leaders and culminating today with two exceptional runs. The pups have settled into their new environment without any problem and are enjoying the new opportunities for interaction with each other. They are also are having fun exploring their new surroundings. Fabian is learning quickly, enjoying the freedom of the forest and the interaction with the dogs. The weather this week was wet with rain most of the week and finishing with snow flurries all day today. Even with all the rain, we were able to get in the scheduled training runs. This coming week is forecasting cold, dry days. Perfect for running Sled Dogs through the forest with all its brilliant colored trees in fall foliage. Until next week...... "WHAT IS THIS? MUD NOT SNOW, THIS NOT LIKE JACK LONDONS BOOK CALL OF THE WILD!" Here is a photo of Fabian on his second day here at Miortuk working with the Sled Dogs. He is photographed here with Blackie after the morning run. Yes, it has been a wet week here with lots of rain making the trails and the kennel quite muddy. But, that is what Fall Training is like. Interesting enough, We had some snow flurries on Wednesday evening and again on Thursday morning while training. The dogs are doing great and keep displaying their increased conditioning with quicker training runs. Until next week....... |
