"THEY ARE OFF & RUNNING IN THE NORTHERN FOREST!"

The new season of running began on Friday!
If the first two days of running are any indication, it will be a fun & exciting season. The adult dogs were distributed to make two teams of ten. The "A"Team consisted of the main 10 of the racing team. The second 10 consisted of one more of the race starters & with the balance to be used in the race team as required. It is my intention to mix & match the the dogs to the races best suited for them. We are going to have a lot of depth this year & a couple of two year olds that will get some limited race experience to prepare them for the main team next season.
The 'A" Team with the addition of Perle, Bergen, Fille & Lena look awesome & well balanced. The "B" Team are also exceeding my expectations for their first couple of runs & will only improve as the season progresses.
The yearlings & the Puppies will start their training around the middle of October giving me more opportunity to train leaders.
Julia King arrived here last Thursday & was introduced to her first run on Friday at the crack of dawn. She did a great job & is a quick learner.
The two puppies are finally named . The white female is Yoda & the black male is Darth. When you see the above photo of Yoda you will see the reason for the name.
Until next week..........

Yes, the final preparations are just about finished to prepare the team & the kennel for this upcoming season.
The dogs were vaccinated this week & received their final worming for the Fall.
The dog houses continue to be built & will be all finished by mid October.
The kennel ground has been reworked, leveled & the pins/houses placed.
The long term weather forecast is for consistently colder temperatures facilitating a consistent, uninterrupted run schedule.
The dogs for this years team are all in place.
The Handler/Trainees will be arriving soon, one this week & the other by early October.
The Humming Birds have departed for another year, the Canada Geese are starting their migration, the Grey Jays have returned & the trees are starting to display their Autumn foliage.
The puppies are now eating ravenously & have already doubled their volume requirement.
With the cooler temperatures & shorter days, the dogs are starting to get excited with the expectation of the new season of running.
Until next week.......

" Preparing For Another Season Of Running In The Northern Forest"

A lot of things happening here this week at Miortuk!
Busy making the new dog houses with 40% of them now complete. The photos above captures images of the new houses.
It is hard to beleave that the Hobbits are now going on a year old. Time passes quickly & they have grown into beautiful dogs.
In preparation for this season, all the adults were wormed this Friday & the puppies on Tuesday.
The adults are getting excited, with the shorter days & colder nights, anticipating the start of a new season of running.
The puppies are completely weaned from Tanya & are gobbling down their meals with enthusiasm. A new video is posted on the "Puppy Page".
Due to the added workload of young dogs, I have a few dogs available for sale to reduce the size of the kennel. For additional information, please go to the "Dogs Available For Adoption Page".
It is with great pleasure to announce that Lauren Hodgkins will be joining the Miortuk Team in October.
Until next week......

"Busy Week Here In The Northern Forest!

Yes, it was a busy week here & getting a lot accomplished.
This week, I finished another two dog houses & placed them in the kennel. The new houses went to Cosmos & Cobalt.
My friend, Denis, came down here on Friday with his Backhoe & we dug up the kennel turning over the sand. We then leveled it out replacing all the pins & houses. The kennel now looks great & ready for Fall training. The dogs really enjoyed playing in the refreshed sand.
The puppies are now eating & drinking & will be weaned this coming week. Hopefully, Tanya will be back in the Kennel with the adults by next weekend.
The weather is starting to get cooler at nights, so soon the dogs will start running. This coming week the weather forecast is for warm temperatures cooling down by next weekend. If this works out, I will start working with the dogs the week following.
Until next week.........

"The Last Week Of August In The Northern Forest!"

Where has the off season gone!
With the end of August, another season of running dogs is just about upon us. Soon the air will be filled with the howls & barks of excited dogs getting ready to run.
The excitement & anticipation is infectious!
As you can see from the photos, the puppies are growing and exploring all the new things life has to offer. They now have their teeth & are experimenting with solid food while Tanya is having her supper. By feeding & watering Tanya in the whelping house, the puppies learn to eat & drink from their Mother. My adult dogs are good eaters & drinkers. So, the puppies learn quickly if they want any of the food they have be quick. Of course, their main diet is still their mothers milk. When I go to the pen with the food, I call out "PUPPY, PUPPY, PUPPY" , this way they associate the words with food and come running to the door to greet me. This helps when they are adults and you want them to come to you when they are loose.
As you can see, the puppies education starts when they are very young.
I was able to complete another two dog houses this week.
The weather this week was mixed with rain and hot/humid conditions.
Until next week.......
