Last season, Darth was a little too young mentally to handle running in a team.
Unlike his sister, Yoda, who matured quicker than Darth and ran great.
Darth showed he had speed but lacked the maturity and was more distracted.
So, the decision was made to lay him off running until this season.
It paid off!
This season he is running great with more confidence and very focused on running. The decision was made to try him at Lead on Wednesday's run and he did great. He will be getting more runs at lead this season for experience and will get regular runs at lead next year.
Here at Miortuk, we are very patient with giving young dogs time to mature and it usually pays off.
This week another race was postponed due weather and the race at St. Luc was re-scheduled to the end of February.
The good news is the trails here are perfect!
We received more snow this week enabling us continue with our regular training schedule.
As well as running the adults, we got the puppies out for their second time running in a team.
They did great!
They are very enthusiastic, pulling hard and very focused especially for being only 6 months old.
This week, we were able to get Julian out running a 4 dog team and tomorrow Judith will get her turn.
So, despite the disappointment of race cancellations and postponements it was a wonderful week here at Miortuk.
Until next week......
