"The Leaves Are Turning Brown And The Sky Is Grey, A Typical Autumn Day Here In the Northern Forest!"

But wait, it is only the Middle of August!
This Spring and Summer have been the most unusual that I have experienced in over 30 years here.
To start: there was still snowy weather here towards the end of April, May and June were very dry resulting in forest fires in June and then rainy  stormy weather July and so far here in August!
The Spring thaw was quick and as a result the overload of rushing water through the rapids running along side the only highway up here had a section washed out causing the closure of the highway for a week. The villages of Saint Zenon, Saint Michel des Saints And the Manawan were isolated with no supplies getting in. he area was running out of fuel and groceries.
The quick thaw, build up of ice on the roof and heavy rains/ice storm caused the buildup of ice on the roof to slide off and destroy my deck.
Luckily, I had Insurance, the damage was covered and the deck rebuilt.
End of May & June was the forest fires, one was only few kilometres from here and quickly extinguished, surrounding the whole area resulting in the road up here from the village was closed for two weeks. Here again isolation from the outside!
It was bad enough that I setup an evacuation plan for the dogs and myself.
Thanks to Marco Rivest for offering to transport my dogs out and Rosaire Perron offering the dogs and me a place to stay.
The next challenge was the rain & storms.
Never before here have I experienced such heavy downpours, strong winds (Tornado warnings) violent Thunder Storms ( that actually shook the chalet).
July set an all time record for the most rain for the month and it looks like August will set another rain fall record.
The lake is at Spring levels!
However, the good news is that the temperatures haven't been to hot for the dogs. The kennel area here is sand and thus no flooding and quick draining.
All the dogs are doing well and not really affected by the crazy weather.
Soon the Summer will be over and Fall Training will begin.
The fireweed turned to silk on the 15th of this month indicating 6 weeks until the first snow. This is over a month early.
Currently, in the process of interviewing applicants for the Handler/Trainee program for this coming season.
So as you see, it has been a very challenging year here so far.
Until the next.......
