The weather this week had sunny, hot, humid, days; three days of rain and some beautiful sunsets.
The rainy weather, along with the humidity, brought out the mosquitoes. Unlike the sign in the above photo, they are not that big. However, what they lack in size they more than make up for it in quantity. In the morning it is not uncommon the see 15 or more buzzing around the screen window in the bedroom frantically looking for away to get in. Somehow, some always get in resulting in constant vigilance and a swatting contest to see how many can be eliminated. The good news is the swatting helps improve reflex and eye/hand coordination.
Then outside, while working in the kennel, there are the black flies clustering around in the shady areas. The excitement of the dogs when you are out there with them causes them to run around which further stimulates the action of the black flies. But the black flies are not the only ones. Yes, this week the horse and deer flies made their presence known and they are big and vicious wanting to bite.
There is a joke up here that there is only two seasons: Winter & Flies!
But, that is really not true, the black flies will be all gone by the first week of July.
Meanwhile, the dogs are getting their exercise chasing the butterflies (papillons) that are visiting the kennel along with daily visits from the family of rabbits (lapins)that have taken up residence here.
I am enjoying watching the hummingbirds (colibris) at the feeder outside my front patio doors.
The dog, I would like to introduce, this week is Lena.
Lena came here last fall after I seen her on a Laurent Gonsolin's video of her running at the wheel position. I quickly realized she was what I needed to compliment Willy at running the wheel position on the Miortuk team.
Lena is a very affectionate, easy keeper and a hard, no nonsense worker in the team. Lena is a big female almost the same size as Willy who is one of the biggest males in the kennel. These two truly compliment each other and has made a big difference to the team.
Until next week.......
