"KARA BEGINS HER ADVENTURE IN THE NORTHERN FOREST!"
Picture
Kara is seen here getting to know Nicky. She arrived her on Thursday and her luggage on Friday. But, all worked out well and it didn't take long for Kara to make new friends in the kennel.
It was another rainy week here with rather warm temperatures not very conducive to running dogs.
However, I was able to get a team run on Monday.
If all goes well starting this coming week, we will start conditioning 2 teams of 12 dogs each. This will be the first outings in a team for the yearlings.
It should prove to be interesting!
Until next week.......

"A NEW RUNNING SEASON BEGINS IN THE NORTHERN FOREST!"
Picture
Here Nanook, Blackie & Team take a break about 3 miles into their first 4.5 mile run of the 2010/11 Season.
It was a great feeling to get out and run the dogs this week to kick off the new season. I was able to run on Wednesday & Thursday and get all the adults their first conditioning run. The schedule was a 2 minute run followed by a 2 minute rest for a 4.5 mile outing. All the adults ran great and seemed even stronger than last year for the first run of the season. It is important at this time to keep the speed of the dogs down in order to prevent injury. This is the time for conditioning and strengthening the muscles supporting the joints in their legs, shoulders & hips. I usually try to get at least 100 miles of conditioning on the dogs before letting them increase their speed. Next week with the arrival of Kara, the yearlings will join the adults to form two 12 dog teams.
It was again a wet week here with rain just about every day or night. However, the night time temperatures are dropping and thus allowing for early morning runs before the temperature heats up during the day.
There are 4 new videos of this weeks runs on you YouTube. If interested go to the links section to get to Miortuks YouTube Site.
Also this week there were a few other site updates.
Until next week.........

"THE CALM DURING A STORMY WEEK IN THE NORTHERN FOREST!"
Picture
Here is a photo showing a beautiful calm day during a wet/stormy week.
It rained here 5 of the 7 days making for a rather gloomy week.
The good news is the nights are getting cooler and the conditions for running the dogs better. Depending on the temperatures, I hope to get the adult dogs out for a couple of conditioning runs this coming week. These runs will just get the dogs and myself back into the rhythm of training after the Summer layoff.
It is normal for the coordination on these early runs to be off, especially for me. It is my intention to get a few runs in with the adults and the following week, when Kara arrives, hook up the yearlings in with the adults forming two teams of 12 dogs each.
With the cooler weather the dogs are getting more excited anticipating the upcoming running season. It is amazing how they know!
Until next week......

"A GLOOMY WEEK HERE IN THE NORTHERN FOREST!"
Picture
Yes, it was a sad/gloomy week here at Miortuk.
We, here at Miortuk, are mourning the passing of Aurora. At 15 years old, age caught up to her and was the cause of her passing. In the "Reflections Section", we celebrate her long, full life here. She will be sorely missed by me and her kennel mates!
The weather this week was suitable to the mood here with dull, wet/humid weather and foggy mornings.
Until next week......
