"THINGS CHANGE FAST HERE AT MIORTUK!" ![]() Yes, things have a habit of changing quickly here. I am pleased to announce the addition of Fabian Schurtenberger joining the Miortuk Team for this coming season. Fabian is from Switzerland and will arrive here the end of September. Welcome aboard Fabian. The weather here is staring to be cooler through the night and early in the morning a sign that Fall conditioning is about to begin. This is a fun time of the year getting back into the swing of " RUNNING DOGS ". The pups are doing well and growing fast. Soon, they will be out of the puppy quarters and into the dog yard joining the adults. Until next week...... Post Title. 08/23/2009
"WITH THE SUNNY, WARM, HUMID SUMMER WEATHER COMES BEAUTIFUL SUNSETS! ![]() This photo is only one example of the beautiful sunsets that were seen here last week. The great weather continued here allowing for the continued enjoyment of Summer activities. With all the beautiful scenery, what is there not to like! Saturday evening, I received some bad news that Katie Heitz will not be able to join us here for this Winter due to a family emergency. She will be missed; but, I understand her situation and wish her all the best. However, this opens up the opportunity to join us here at Miortuk as a Handler/Trainee. If you are interested, please check out the Handler/Trainee page on this site and contact me ASAP. Until next week....... Post Title. 08/16/2009
"SUNNY, HOT & HUMID: FINALLY A BEAUTIFUL SUMMER WEEK IN THE NORTHERN FOREST!" ![]() Yes, it was a beautiful week here allowing for enjoyment of Summer activities. Here is a photo taken while kayaking in a beautiful, peaceful bay. This one of my favorite spots to just sit in the kayak and drift in the calm water of the bay listening to the sound of silence. Finally the kennel is drying out and the dogs are enjoying the change. Last number of seasons there has been problems with Cluster Flies biting the tips of the dogs ears. Last year, I started adding garlic powder to the dogs feed and this year it is proving to be effective as there are very few flies this year. The ones that are here don't seem to like the garlic in the blood and are not biting the dogs ears. This is a big relief to see the dogs not being bothered by these pesty flies. All is well here in the Northern Forest! Until next week........ Post Title. 08/09/2009
"FINALLY THE SUMMER WEATHER HAS ARRIVED!" ![]() Yes, finally we had a rather good week weather wise. This week we had more sunny days than rainy ones. It is also a good time of the year as the biting flies are at a minimum. Usually the weather here in the forest is beautiful from now through to the end of October. The photo of the sunset shows the clearing skies and the calm of the lake due to the lack of wind. Normally now the lake is mirror like early in the morning and the same at dusk. The dogs are also enjoying the drier weather as the kennel is finally drying out. Soon the nights will get cooler and the dogs will start to get excited knowing that the running season will soon be upon us. I am slowly getting all the equipment ready for the start of training: new harnesses, making new tug & neck lines and checking all the gear to ensure a trouble free start to the season. Until next week...... Post Title. 08/02/2009
"VIOLENT SKIES DISPLAY NATURES FURY & DELICATE BEAUTY IN THE NORTHERN FOREST!" ![]() The angry looking sky in one sunset this week indicates the stormy weather experienced in the first half of the week. However, a closer examination of the clouds in the lower section shows shapes of some delicate wispy wings. The weather did improve and was very pleasant on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Rains and thunder storms returned on Sunday. We had a pleasant surprise with Robby returning to pay a visit from Wednesday evening through Saturday. We had a great visit, lots of laughs and the dogs really enjoyed the added attention. Until next week....... |
