"SPRING ACTIVITIES AT MIORTUK IN THE NORTHERN FOREST!"
Yes, Spring is here with again this week with beautiful warm weather. The warm sunny days along with a little rain has hastened the melt of the ice on the lake. If this weather continues, the ice will be all gone by the end of next week.
Half the kennel is dry and free of ice as it receives the afternoon sun. The other half is melting more slowly. The dogs are just lazing around soaking up the warm rays of the sun. This is a great time for them as there are no flies yet. The Black Flies normally return around the end of May.
The frogs are stating their nightly serenade marking the start of their mating season.
A few ducks have returned from their Winter in the south. I also saw a Blue Heron last week. They nest in the swamp close to the chalet.
As you can see from the photo, Blackie is also enjoying his daily one on one time with me.
This is a great time of the year seeing the forests rebirth.
Until next week......

"THE SECOND HALF OF THE ANNOUNCEMENTS AT MIORTUK KENNEL."
It is my pleasure to announce that Katherine Heitz has agreed to join the Miortuk Team for this coming Fall/Winter season. Katie has traveled extensively and has worked in India, Haiti and the USA. Her love of animals and nature will suit her well here. We look foreword to her arrival here at Miortuk in the middle of September.
Welcome to the team Katie!
The weather here again this week has been beautiful with lots of sunshine and warm days. The dogs are enjoying the warm weather and I am getting the kennel cleared of the winter residue.
The ice has melted in a third of the kennel and if these warm temperatures continue, the ice should all gone in a couple of weeks.
The lake is still frozen enough for a Fox to make daily ventures across the lake. However, the ice is disappearing along the shoreline, so she will have to decide which side of the lake she will raise her young.
Yes, Spring has truly arrived in the Northern Forest!
Until next week.....
